There are several agencies throughout the state that offers full assistance to people affected by domestic or sexual violence. Simply contact the agency serving your area to receive free and confidential services. These agencies help with crisis intervention, restraining and harassment orders, court follow-up, individual or group counseling, therapy, shelter placement, emergency food (grocery gift cards), moving or relocation costs, lawyer referral, cell phones with 30-day plan, and other assistance you might need. .     Shelter SAFELINK is a phone line that has access to all shelters in the state of MA. If you need emergency housing, they offer several locations that offer a temporary place. If you are a victim of domestic violence, they offer specific places for victims. ​ To speak with someone, call the SAFELINK 877-785-2020 and press number 3 for Portuguese. Safelink has information on every shelter in the state of MA that has any bedding available. Process: Once you call Safelink and talk to someone. They will connect you to whatever shelter is available. Each shelter has a similar process, they will do an intake which is some personal questions, and then they can tell you if you can go now, or they can say that they will evaluate the applications they received and that they will contact you. If you are a victim of domestic violence it is important to let the operator know. Victims of domestic violence are treated more urgently to find a safe place. In every shelter there will be case workers who will help you with the next step of finding somewhere to live and other assistance you may need. ​ If you don't have a way to get there, let the person who is assisting you know.     HOW TO REGISTER OR TRANSFER FROM SCHOOL Every location uses a very similar way to register children for school. Here I will give an example of registering in the city of Fall River MA. If you live in another city, just google "School Department and the city and state where you live". And follow what that department's system requires. Start by creating an account on the Fall River Public Schools Portal (or the city you live in) You must complete the entire registration process in order for your child to be enrolled. Nessa page you must click on the red button on the right where it says "Start". You will be forwarded to another page so you can enter your address. Just click on the blue letters next to the red ones that say "Click here to look up now" where you will put your address so that the system will give you the name of the school your child will study. Remember that each school serves a specific location, even if you want to place your child in a certain school, if your address is not within that district, it will not be possible. Once you know which school the system showed your child to register for, enter this page and start creating your account. Here you need to answer the questions that the website asks, and on the last page of this process, you will have the option to schedule a mandatory meeting with the school. You will be given a list of documents to bring to your meeting at the Fall River Public Schools Parent Information Center or the Durfee High School Registration Center, both located in the Durfee School Building at 360 Elsbree Street.
